PSTM: Clarity & Bloat

The Idea:
More dreams die from lack of focus than lack of ability.
Additionally, more businesses fail due to indigestion than hunger.
I have been reading three books lately. The first is Steve Stewart Williams’ A Billion Years of Sex Differences. One of the more interesting things he pointed out was something I never would have thought of:
Sexual dimorphism (in simple terms, when males and females are different sizes) does not always happen in one direction. The basic premise is that a size difference occurs to give males an advantage over rivals, but there are actually two different environments that animals compete in. On the ground, in an essentially two-dimensional space, the males are almost always bigger. In a three-dimensional space though, where agility becomes a competitive advantage, you often see evolutionary pressures pushing males to smaller sizes.
What nature optimizes for is not a one-way increase in size, but rather effectiveness. It doesn’t care for bloat; it cares for results. If it gets those results due to an increase in size, great.
But the increase isn’t the point. It is just one strategy.
The other books I’m reading: Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails and Solid Wiggles (a fun jello shot creation book). Can’t be serious all the time.

The Advice:
Where are you pursuing a strategy that worked in the past (getting bigger) even though it isn’t helping you anymore?
