PSTM: Automate Away the Pain
Share
The Idea:
Be ok with not being ok. Don’t just accept the norm, dig deeper.
I have been digging into different things that annoy me and getting nerdy.
And I LOVE IT.
One big part of my job is to tediously go line by line, clicking approve on invoices in a restaurant invoice/inventory system. It takes forever, it’s slow to load, and it feels like my life is wasting away for no reason.
It occurred to me that if I just checked them for accuracy (maybe 10 minutes of time???) I could write a script that would go through and approve them one by one after. All the wasted time, sitting around waiting for the screen to finish loading, back in my hands.
It has probably saved me like 30 minutes of time, max. But, my god. It has drastically improved my mood. That was my single least favorite job, hands down. Now it’s just…gone.
You don’t have to accept the status quo. You always can improve things, take away annoyances. And sure, you won’t automate away all of life’s bullshit. But even 50% is a much nicer existence.

The Advice: Use Claude. Test out Gemini. Get good at prompting. Learn to test the limits, direct, and channel generative AI. It has some crazy side benefits. You can’t get good output without clear and exacting thinking…so get to thinking.
